I use to DREAD summer vacation schedule shifts and now I LOOK FORWARD to them! You read that right, I find myself craving my summer routine in the middle of the year when I’m overwhelmed. But it didn’t always use to be that way.
It wasn’t that long ago when the school year would wrap, backpacks would hit the floor, and suddenly I was staring down three months of kids at home… and a business to run. My well-oiled workflow would evaporate, replaced by snack requests, play dates, boredom complaints, and the low-key guilt of not doing “enough” in either role. I felt I was failing as a “Mom” and “Business Owner”.
Sound familiar?
As a working mom, especially one running a business from home, summer can feel like you’re losing your built-in childcare, routine, and momentum all at once. But a couple of years ago, I decided to stop bracing for the chaos—and start strategizing with purpose.
And honestly?
That shift changed everything.
There was a time I believed summer meant I had to “power through” with less time, more interruptions, and lower productivity. But when I looked at why I chose this entrepreneurial life in the first place, the answer was clear:
✨ To have the freedom to invest in my kids.
✨ To be present during the seasons that matter.
✨ To build something that supports my family, not competes with it.
When I let that truth lead my planning, summer stopped being an obstacle and became an invitation.
Now, before summer begins, I carve out intentional space to create a seasonal rhythm. It’s not a rigid schedule. It’s a flow—a framework that guides our days with flexibility and purpose.
Here’s what that looks like for us:
- 🧘♀️ Early mornings carved out for me—quiet time, learning, movement & physical activity.
This is what I end up missing most about my summer schedule. The early mornings I can sit out on my patio in the warm summer light, with a cup of coffee, read my Bible, then read something else thats going to inspire or teach me something new. My 5am-8am time block became my FAVE! - 🧘♀️ Outings, activities or projects to do together —visits to the library, grandma’s house, chore time, crafts or to the pool.
- 📚 Independent activity blocks for the kids while I do focused work.
My kids are old enough to play together, alone, and quietly without me needing to provide the entertainment and supervision. For some mom’s this may be nap times with your littles. For others it may be the time you ask for your next door neighbor to babysit, or someone else in your family to take over. Whatever you need to do, its the GUILT FREE time for you to leave your kids and not be MOM. - 🗂️ Prioritized work hours, fewer but more focused than during the school year.
I can’t really explain it to you, but my best guess is because I knew deep down inside that I had less time to get things done, I did not feel like I was less productive even though I was technically working less. - 📆 Visual rhythms posted for the kids so they know what to expect.
All kids thrive on predictable schedules. Ever get “Now what?”, What are we doing next?”, “What are we doing tomorrow?” a million times a day? Kids need and crave predictable rhythms, just like we do.
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about setting the tone—so we all feel grounded, not scattered.
Here’s the beautiful part.
The first summer I lived this way—with less hustle, more rhythm—I saw more growth in my business than I had in the 10 years before.
Why? Because I wasn’t constantly reacting. I was living aligned.
I was investing deeply in my kids’ growth and my own. I was showing up to work with clarity, focus, and a full heart. I had fewer hours—but far more intention.
That kind of alignment? It shows. In your content. In your client relationships. In your energy.
So moms, if you’re feeling the summer squeeze coming on, I see you.
You are allowed to shift gears. You’re allowed to work less and still honor your calling. You’re allowed to redefine success by something more than output.
Start your summer with purpose. Set your tone before the chaos sets it for you.
✨ Your kids will thrive with rhythm.
✨ Your business will grow from peace, not pressure.
✨ And you will grow in ways you didn’t expect.
